The good news is that high pressure is nudging in from the north, and it is slowly but surely winning the argument. Clouds will erode from north to south through the day, meaning the Philadelphia suburbs and areas north of the city will see sunshine first, while interior South Jersey will have clouds stubbornly clinging on well into the afternoon. Think of it as the clouds doing their best to overstay their welcome at the party.
Once the sun does break through, temperatures will respond. Highs climb into the upper 70s to lower 80s on the mainland, but the catch is that the warmest readings will go to whoever scores the most sunshine. If your neighborhood stays under the gray stuff longer, you will land closer to the low end of that range. Humidity is on the manageable side, so it should not feel oppressive even when it warms up.
Mainland (Vineland, Hammonton, Mays Landing, Millville)
- High: Upper 70s to lower 80s°F, with the warmest spots going where the sun shows up first.
- Mostly cloudy through the morning and midday, gradual clearing from north to south through the afternoon.
- Winds out of the northwest, which is the good-news direction for pushing those clouds south and out.
- Humidity is acceptable today, not a sticky mess, just a dull, grey kind of morning before things hopefully brighten up.
Shore (Cape May to LBI, Atlantic City, Ocean City)
- High: Upper 60s on the sand, likely staying cooler than the mainland all day.
- Winds start out of the northwest, which means bugs early on the beach. Winds then shift to the southeast through the afternoon, bringing in the sea breeze and maybe, just maybe, some sun by mid to late day.
- Rip current risk is MODERATE today. If you are heading in the water, pay attention to the flags and the surf zone.
- Sun coverage at the shore looks spotty at best. This is more of a “walk on the beach and see what happens” day than a full-on beach blanket situation.
Wednesday: Quick Sprinkle, Then Back to Warm and Humid
A cold front swings through Wednesday morning, and it may kick off some spotty showers early in the day. Nothing dramatic, just enough to keep an umbrella handy for the commute. By afternoon, the front clears out, the sky turns partly sunny, and the humidity cranks back up. Mainland highs push into the 80s for the afternoon. It will feel more like early summer than late spring. Storms are not expected to be a major player, but the added humidity means things could feel stickier than Tuesday.
Looking Ahead: Late Week Warmth, Cooler Weekend

The CPC’s 6 to 10 day outlook is leaning toward below-normal temperatures for the region, consistent with where we’ve been more often than not. Precipitation signals are less clear, but the overall pattern favors a typical late-May setup with afternoon storm chances possible on the warmer days and LESS precip.
Bottom line: Get through today’s gloom, enjoy the warmth Thursday and Friday, and plan for a slightly quieter, cooler weekend. Not bad at all for the last stretch of May.

- Morning/Midday: Do not expect much from the sky early. Keep expectations low and let the clouds do their thing. A light layer might not be a bad idea if you are out early on the mainland.
- Afternoon/Evening: Watch for the sunshine to creep in from the north. The warmer you want it to feel, the more you want to be somewhere with a clearing sky. Shore-goers, winds shift to the southeast mid-day, bringing bugs out of the picture but keeping it cooler.
- Tonight: Lows drop into the lower to middle 60s. Generally quiet. A comfortable night to sleep with the windows open.
