While our area has NO tropical threats, Bermuda will be watching Earl closely. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch are in effect for the island of Bermuda through Friday. Heavy rain and Tropical Storm force winds are expected Thursday into Friday.

Earl is currently a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 105 mph. Earl is expected to grow and intensify into a Category 3 (115 mph) to Category 4 hurricane (130 mph) as it passes just east of Bermuda Thursday night into Friday morning. Bermuda can expect very strong winds, heavy rain, and large and dangerous waves.

Hurricane-force winds currently extend 60 outward from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 mph. Earl’s wind field will expect over the next few days and allow the Hurricane to get stronger.
The United States East Coast will experience dangerous rip currents and large waves from Earl. The Atlantic will be quite choppy for the next several days.

The tropics are becoming active. September 10 is the peak of hurricane season. We are watching a few more disturbances FAR out in the Atlantic. We should watch the wave that’s emerging off the coast of Africa over the next week as that could have the greatest chance of bringing rain and wind to the island chain.
