Afternoon Forecast: Strong to severe storms north and west

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded to a LEVEL 3 (ENHANCED) severe weather threat for locations mainly along and west of the Delaware River. LEVEL 2 (SLIGHT) severe weather threat remains for portions of South Jersey.

Thunderstorms will develop by mid to late afternoon to our north and west. Damaging wind gusts and flooding are the main severe threats with any thunnderstorm that develops. Dew points will be in the 70s this afternoon, so think of the atmosphere as a huge sponge absorbing water.

By this evening, scattered thunderstorms will still be possible, but mainly to our north and west. That doesn’t mean Mainland or Coastal Jersey won’t see any thunderstorms. There likely will be at least a few storms that will produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.
