Today starts out fine. But as we push into the afternoon, the concerns for severe weather tick up… and I mean tick up. We’re watching for strong thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, torrential downpours, flash flooding, and yeah, even an isolated spin-up tornado somewhere in the viewing area. That window opens after lunch and runs through dinner.
Until then, it’s a mix of sun and clouds, highs in the lower to middle 80s. Humidity comes roaring back too, dew points climbing into the 70s. Weather you can wear… while it lasts.
Here’s the setup, for the weather nerds: we’re sitting on the northeast side of a low that’s riding along a frontal boundary. Historically, this kind of setup adds extra vorticity, or “spin,” to the atmosphere, and that’s what lets storms grow stronger and occasionally go supercellular. We’ll be watching this closely all afternoon.
At the Beach
I think you can squeeze in a few hours at the beaches without any incident. Just keep an ear out as the afternoon wears on.
Overnight
Storms turn more spotty by mid to late afternoon and fade out by evening. We drop into the lower 70s overnight.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow looks GREAT! Highs in the lower 80s, less humidity, tons of sunshine. Enjoy it.
Saturday’s the question mark. Looks rainy for at least the first part of the day, and whether that sticks around into the afternoon… that’s the piece we don’t know yet. For now we’re calling it “unsettled.” Temps look to stay at or slightly below average heading into next week. A win for those of us who aren’t summer people.
