Picture Perfect. The Weekend Has Arrived.

We made it, folks. After what felt like a long week, the atmosphere is finally cooperating, and Friday is delivering exactly the kind of day we all deserve. Think crisp morning air, brilliant sunshine, and afternoon temps that hit that sweet spot where you want to be outside but have no good excuse to stay in. That’s today. Enjoy it.

High pressure is firmly in control, and all that sinking air means skies stay bright from sunrise to sunset. The one catch: we’ve got an offshore wind out of the WNW running 15 to 20 mph, which keeps things on the breezy side at times. Dew points will be comfortable and low, so the humidity is a non-issue. Real-feel temps will track right with the thermometer today, which is a nice change of pace. Just watch out for the bugs, because that land breeze is going to push them right onto the beaches. Worth knowing before you head down.

Mainland (Vineland, Hammonton, Mays Landing, Millville)

  • High: Upper 70s to low 80s°F
  • Plenty of sunshine all day. High pressure keeps cloud cover out of the picture.
  • WNW wind 15-20 mph, breezy at times throughout the afternoon.
  • Low humidity, comfortable dew points. No complaints on that front.

Shore (Cape May to LBI, Atlantic City, Ocean City)

  • High: Mid 70s°F on the sand, a few degrees warmer just inland
  • That offshore WNW wind means no sea breeze to moderate temps, but it also means bugs on the beach. Bug spray is not optional today.
  • Water temps are still sitting in the middle 50s. With a land breeze pushing offshore, do not expect any warming there. The ocean is cold.
  • Safe suntime around 20 minutes. Sunscreen up early and reapply.

Saturday: Partly Cloudy and Seasonably Cool

Tonight brings a pleasant close to the day, but clouds will be on the increase as a front pushes in from the north. Lows drop into the lower 50s, so keep a layer handy if you’re out late. Saturday will see a mix of sun and clouds as that front lingers nearby. Highs land around 70, which is comfortable but definitely on the cooler side for late May. Sunday shapes up as the better of the two weekend days, with brighter skies returning. Then it’s back to 80 on Monday, and a thunderstorm chance returns Tuesday as the pattern turns a bit more active again.

Looking Ahead: Weekend Through Early June

Per the Weather Prediction Center and Climate Prediction Center, here’s how the next few days are shaping up:

DayOutlookHighs
Sat, May 30Intervals of sun and clouds, seasonably coolNear 70
Sun, May 31Brighter skies, more sunshine returningMid to upper 70s
Mon, Jun 1Warm and mostly sunnyNear 80
Tue, Jun 2Thunderstorm chance, more active pattern returnsUpper 70s to low 80s

The CPC’s 6 to 10 day outlook continues to lean toward below-normal temperatures heading into early June, with a drier-than-normal pattern for our region. Do not expect any big pattern change on the horizon. The heat is not surging in anytime soon, and meaningful rainfall is not lining up either.

Bottom line: It’s a gorgeous start to the holiday weekend stretch. Enjoy Friday fully, plan for a cooler Saturday, and look forward to Sunday rebounding nicely. Just do not book the beach on Saturday expecting summer vibes.

Today’s Game Plan

  • Morning/Midday: Green light on the commute. Grab a light jacket for the lower 50s start, and ditch it by late morning. No weather concerns whatsoever.
  • Afternoon/Evening: Get outside. Seriously. Upper 70s to low 80s, low humidity, and wall-to-wall sun. If you’re heading to the shore, bring bug spray and sunscreen. That WNW wind is pushing bugs onto the beach.
  • Tonight: Pleasant evening out, but clouds thicken up overnight ahead of Saturday’s frontal passage. Lows hit the lower 50s. Light jacket weather if you’re out late.

Friday showing up and delivering. That’s all we asked for, and that’s exactly what we’re getting. Have a great one out there.
