Thursday is shaping up to be a breath of fresh air. And we mean that literally. Early morning clouds will peel back and hand you a gorgeous stretch of blue sky right when you need it most. High pressure is calling the shots today and it is doing a fantastic job. The NW flow kicks in and keeps things moving, though by afternoon you will notice some clouds starting to build. Still, this is not a storm day. This is one of those “roll down the windows on the drive home” kind of days.
The real headline here is the humidity, or better yet, the lack of it. Dew points are dropping into the 50s today, which if you have been sweating through the last stretch, is going to feel like a whole different atmosphere. Comfortable, refreshing, and actually enjoyable to be outside. One heads-up: the off-shore breeze means the bugs will be out to play. Grab some repellent if you are spending time near the water or wooded areas.
Mainland (Vineland, Hammonton, Mays Landing, Millville)
- High: Lower 80s, with that comfortable low-humidity feel making it less punishing than the numbers suggest
- Sunshine early, some afternoon cloud build from the NW flow but no storm concerns
- Winds out of the NW at 10 to 15 mph, keeping things pleasant and breezy all day
- Dew points in the 50s. That is the good stuff right there. Not sticky. Not muggy. Just right.
Shore (Cape May to LBI, Atlantic City, Ocean City)
- High: Middle 70s at the beaches, right in that sweet spot for a beach day without the heat
- Off-shore flow today, so the sea breeze is not coming to save you from the bugs. Consider yourself warned.
- UV index will be solid with the sunshine early. Sunscreen is still a must.
- A comfortable, low-humidity shore day. The kind people drive two hours for.
Friday Looks Just As Good
Friday carries the momentum right along. Consistent, calm, and dialed in around 80 degrees. High pressure stays in control and there is nothing complicated about it. Just another solid late-May day to enjoy before the weekend takes things down a notch. No drama, no rain chances. Plan around it.
Looking Ahead: Weekend into Early June
Per the Weather Prediction Center and Climate Prediction Center, here is how the next several days are shaping up:
| Day | Outlook | Highs |
|---|---|---|
| Thu, May 28 | Sunshine early, afternoon clouds, breezy and comfortable | Low 80s inland / Mid 70s shore |
| Fri, May 29 | Mostly sunny and pleasant, high pressure holds | Around 80 |
| Sat, May 30 | Partly sunny, calm and quiet | Low to Mid 70s |
| Sun, May 31 | Partly sunny, tranquil, no rain concerns | Low to Mid 70s |
| Mon, June 1 | Next chance of rain arrives, timing still to be refined | TBD |
The CPC’s 6 to 10 day outlook is leaning toward slightly below-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation for our region. The WPC is keeping the bulk of the wet weather shunted well to the south over the Southeast US, with the mid-Atlantic staying on the dry side of the pattern. There is some potential for temperatures to rebound closer to normal by the end of the first week of June, so enjoy the comfortable stretch while it is here.
Bottom line: Thursday and Friday are the pick of the week. The weekend backs off a little on the temperatures but stays dry and pleasant. Nothing threatening on the horizon until Monday at the earliest, and even that is worth keeping an eye on rather than worrying about.
Thursday’s Game Plan
- Morning/Midday: Get outside early and soak up the sunshine before the afternoon clouds build. It is gorgeous out there.
- Afternoon/Evening: Clouds increase but no storms. A little breezy, very comfortable. Bug spray if you are heading near the water or woods.
- Tonight: Mild and quiet overnight as high pressure settles in. Sleep with the windows open if you can. You have earned it.
It is a great stretch of weather ahead, South Jersey. Enjoy every bit of it.
