Buckle up, friend! We’ve got one more day of summer-in-May madness before Mother Nature finally hits the reset button. The good news? This is the LAST day of the heatwave. The not-so-good news? You’re going to want to chug some water and maybe rethink that midday lawn project.
Dew points are sitting in the mid-to-upper 60s, which is a fancy weather way of saying gross. The air feels like a wet wool blanket, and that’s not just you. Real-feel temps will rocket into the upper 90s to around 100°F across the region.
Mainland
- High: 92 to 95°F (feels like 98 to 102°F)
- Hazy sunshine giving way to thickening afternoon clouds
- Light south/southwest wind, not much help
- Humidity is oppressive. Yes, that’s the technical term.
Shore (Cape May to LBI, Atlantic City, Ocean City)
- High: 84 to 88°F at the immediate beach, low 90s just inland
- Sea breeze kicks in mid-morning, your built-in air conditioner
- Water temps still a chilly 60°F. Quick dip equals instant reset.
- UV index off the charts, so sunscreen, hats, the whole deal
Storm Watch: After 5 PM, Keep an Eye to the Sky
A cold front is barreling toward us this afternoon, and when it crashes into all this hot, juicy air, well, you know how this story goes. 🌩️
Here’s the deal: Strong to isolated severe thunderstorms could pop up after 5 PM. The Storm Prediction Center has us under a marginal to slight risk for severe weather, with damaging wind gusts as the main threat.
Not everyone is going to get hit. These will be hit or miss. But the chance is on the table region-wide. If you’ve got outdoor plans this evening, have a Plan B ready. Bring in the patio cushions. Park the car in the garage. You know the drill.
Overnight: Storms exit, skies clear, and temps tumble into the lower 60s. Open those windows, the change is coming!
Thursday: Welcome Back, Spring!
You’re going to wake up Thursday and wonder if you teleported to a different state. Highs only in the lower-to-middle 60s, refreshing breeze, MUCH lower humidity. After today, it’s going to feel almost, dare I say, chilly? In a good way.
Looking Ahead: The Holiday Weekend Outlook
Per the Weather Prediction Center and Climate Prediction Center, here’s how the Memorial Day weekend is shaping up. I’ll be honest, it’s a mixed bag:
| Day | Outlook | Highs |
|---|---|---|
| Friday 5/22 | Clouds and scattered showers | Mid 60s |
| Saturday 5/23 | Damp and raw, on and off rain | Around 60 |
| Sunday 5/24 | Lingering showers possible | Low to mid 60s |
| Memorial Day 5/25 | Improving? Fingers crossed | Mid 60s |
The CPC’s 6 to 10 day outlook is leaning toward below-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation for our region, so we’re trading the heat for an unsettled, cool, soggy stretch. Not the BBQ weekend everyone was hoping for, but hey, your AC unit will appreciate the break.
Bottom line: Have a backup plan for those holiday cookouts and keep checking back in. Forecasts this far out can shift, and I’ll keep you posted.
Today’s Game Plan
- Morning/Midday: Stay cool, stay hydrated, take it easy
- After 5 PM: Watch the sky, bring stuff inside, charge your phone
- Tonight: Crack those windows. Fresh air is on the way!
Stay safe out there, South Jersey. Survive today, and the rest of the week is gravy.
